The white sambhur of Knuckles PDF Print E-mail

A white sambhur, which is reminiscent of Dr R L Spittel’s book of fiction by that same name, is frequenting Hapugaskumbura area in Ududumbara on the eastern slope of the Knuckles range.

Residents of the area said a common brown coloured sambhur was seen in the company of the white sambhur. Environmentalists said white sambhurs belong to a rare species of animals and that it was for the first time that one was seen in the Knuckles range. They expressed concern about the possibility of harm coming to this rare creature in the hands of poachers.
